Overview

Ming Kee Porridge SS2 is a quintessential stop for anyone seeking authentic Cantonese comfort food in the heart of Petaling Jaya. Nestled along the bustling Jalan SS2/64, this restaurant offers a warm, unpretentious atmosphere perfectly suited for casual diners and families looking for nourishing, soul-soothing meals. Its indoor seating with air-conditioning provides a comfortable refuge from the lively streets outside, although parking around the area can be a challenge — a minor inconvenience given the foodie rewards inside.

At the core of Ming Kee’s appeal lies its expertly crafted porridge, a silky, creamy dish that strikes a delicate balance between smooth texture and flavor. Whether it’s the classic minced pork with century egg or the more adventurous frog porridge, each bowl delivers a taste reminiscent of home-style cooking. The freshness and quality of ingredients shine through, from the tender pork pieces to the crispy fried intestines and freshly fried yau char kueh on the side, creating a satisfying contrast in both texture and flavor.

Beyond the porridge, Ming Kee excels in its roasted and BBQ meats, which add depth to their offerings. The roasted duck, tender and juicy though not overly crispy, is a standout, paired beautifully with fragrant rice and drizzled sauces that enhance its richness. Char siu and crispy siew yoke also hold their own, evoking the authentic street food charm of Hong Kong’s vibrant night scene, especially appealing to those craving a late-night supper. Complementing the mains are the noodles and flavorful sides, like the dry-fried four-season beans, which contribute a well-rounded experience.

Service at Ming Kee is efficient and friendly, with attentive staff ensuring that despite the steady flow of customers, orders arrive promptly and dishes are always served hot. The restaurant draws a diverse crowd — from families enjoying dinner to night owls seeking satisfying comfort food after hours. This blend of traditional flavors, consistent quality, and a welcoming environment has earned Ming Kee a loyal following within the local community.

Overall, Ming Kee Porridge SS2 offers a genuine Cantonese dining experience that resonates deeply with anyone in search of wholesome, flavorful comfort food. Ming Kee Cantonese Porridge in SS2 is one of those humble spots that truly captures the heart of classic comfort food. Tucked along the busy streets of SS2, this place has earned a loyal following for its silky-smooth porridge that feels like a warm hug, especially on a rainy day or when you’re craving something light yet satisfying. The texture of the porridge is perfectly balanced—smooth, creamy, and not overly thick—with that gentle Cantonese touch that reminds you of home-style cooking. What makes Ming Kee stand out from other porridge stalls around PJ is the consistency and freshness of their ingredients. Whether it’s their signature century egg with minced pork, sliced fish, or the hearty mixed pork porridge, everything tastes clean and well-prepared. The toppings like crispy fried intestines and yau char kueh (fried dough sticks) are always fresh and add that perfect crunch to each spoonful. The service is straightforward but friendly, and the shop maintains a steady crowd, especially during breakfast and supper hours. While parking in SS2 can be tricky, the taste definitely makes it worth the minor hassle. Compared to other porridge spots in the area, Ming Kee feels more authentic and less commercialised—you can tell they’ve perfected their craft over time. If you’re looking for a simple, comforting meal done right, Ming Kee Cantonese Porridge is definitely one of the best spots to visit in SS2.

Restaurant is indoor with AC, plenty of seating but mostly suitable for 2-4 pax. Tried roast duck and other dish. Roast duck is not crispy skin type, and is on salty side. overall is ok... other food is average. Downside : Parking can be a pain...

There’s a definite Hong Kong–Kowloon vibe here - familiar flavours that evoke street-side stalls and neon-lit suppers, though the wantan noodles here have a texture more attuned to softer local taste. The BBQ pork (char siu) is easily among the best in town, matched only by the crispy roast pork (siew yoke). One of the biggest draws? It opens late - making it a go-to spot for night owls craving a solid supper. While many flock here for the claypot congee, we came for the real stars: the BBQ meats. Even at 9 PM on a weekday, the place is humming. Queues outside are the norm, but preordering speeds things up. Dishes arrive fast, fresh, and piping hot. The service - handled by a sharp, polite Myanmarese crew - is brisk and tidy. Everything we ordered hit the mark. The roasted duck was juicy and flavourful, though a crispier skin and a side of plum sauce would have made it perfect. A simple plate of blanched kai lan made for a clean, crunchy counterpoint. Prices lean toward the higher side - but for downtown PJ, that’s par for the course.

Yesterday evening I went to this place to buy some porridge cos I was not feeling too good n had not much of an appetite for rice or noodles. I only felt like eating some warm n soothing porridge but was too lethargic to cook it myself. So I bought a pax of minced pork porridge from this place instead. I brought my own container cos I don't like to put the hot porridge in their plastic container. After waiting for about 20 minutes , I got my porridge n I went home. The porridge was really warm, creamy n silky soft. I like the chewy minced pieces of pork inside the porridge too. I ate all the porridge which was very tasty with some yau char kwai. This is my favourite combination. After that, I felt much better. This is a really good n nutritional Cantonese comfort food . It reminded me of my mum 's home cooked porridge . A good place for a meal of either rice, noodles or porridge Cantonese style.

Yesterday evening my family n I went out for dinner at this shop in SS2 . We were rather surprised by the large crowd of diners inside the shop . Usually it was not as crowded as yesterday. There were seats for customers who were waiting for their turn to get in. The food business here was so good - full house! We waited for 30 minutes before we were given a table. We sat down n browsed through the menu. We ordered a pax of minced pork porridge n another hoax of chicken porridge. Then we also ordered a pax of rice with roasted duck meat n char siew. Lastly we ordered a pax of rice with roasted duck meat pork n chafe siew. We shared the food, trying the chicken n pork porridge n the rest of the chicken rice. We quite like the smooth n creamy porridge. There were reasonably sized minced pork in the pork porridge. So is the chicken porridge. It was smooth n creamy too. Reminds me of my mum’s porridge- real Cantonese style which I like . The roasted duck meat n the roasted pork n char siew go very well with the aromatic chicken rice - paired with their chilly sauce. This is a good place for all types of Cantonese dishes n especially porridge of various flavours. Prices are quite reasonable too.

visited 2 times just within 1 week. The duck wanton mee is really good! Lean duck meat is very succulent and juicy, paired with the chewy noodles. The soy sauce is not too salty so we could enjoy coating the noodles entirely to enhance the flavour. The single portion of the duck meat is just the same as the duck wanton noodle, so we realised better to have 2 wanton mee for it, coz the duck noodle costs only rm0.7 more than the duck only, but you get the mee. The mala duck soup noodle is not to our liking since it's very soupy with hardly any shredded duck or much to eat except the noodles submerged, unlike the picture on the menu. Worse, we tasted it unnecessarily too oily and not that numbing flavour, which makes us overall feel very expensive for RM17. The fish porridge is kinda let down too due to hardly any fish meat, we didn't taste it but just silky runny rice itself, at least the porridge itself is very tasty surprisingly, the staff has no idea what fish is used to put in the fish porridge even. hum~~ I gotta say who wants to pay just for rice for that price? Again if we go there, we would stick to duck wanton mee. The sitting set up is kinda clumsy and too tight between other tables and the hall, we gotta put our groceries on the table. What we couldn't understand is that the plain ice water we ordered just arrived at the end despite us chasing the staff and the counter manager, they kept forgetting and the foreign staff seemed to prioritise serving fancy drinks over just plain water. But when my son kept asking if it's coming or not, I had the counter manager get it ordered to the staff straight away. Otherwise, it wouldn't have been made til we finished. Again, certainly some food is good while some is not worthwhile after 2 times we tried out as a dinner choice after having had a durian feast opposite Those who love duck, pls try it, you won't regret.
